Altafluor Benox is a sterile ophthalmic solution combining fluorescein sodium (0.25%) and benoxinate hydrochloride (0.4%). Fluorescein sodium acts as a disclosing agent, highlighting abnormalities on the eye's surface, while benoxinate hydrochloride serves as a short-acting local anesthetic, numbing the eye for comfort during procedures. This combination is commonly used in eye examinations and procedures such as tonometry, gonioscopy, and the removal of corneal foreign bodies. The anesthetic effect typically begins within 5 to 45 seconds and lasts about 20 minutes. Patients may experience temporary stinging, burning, or redness after application.
