Imitrex Statdose System Side Effects
Pain, swelling, bleeding, or bruising may occur at the injection site, but these are usually mild. You might experience flushing, tingling, numbness, prickling, a sensation of heat, weakness, drowsiness, or dizziness. If these persist or worsen, it's important to consult your healthcare provider. This medication can raise blood pressure, so regular monitoring is advised. Notify your healthcare provider if you notice elevated readings.
Commonly, sumatriptan can cause chest, jaw, or neck tightness, pain, or pressure, which are generally not serious but can resemble heart attack symptoms like chest pain, shortness of breath, or unusual sweating. Seek immediate medical attention if these or other severe symptoms occur, such as a fast or irregular heartbeat, fainting, severe stomach pain, bloody diarrhea, or signs of a stroke, like sudden weakness, trouble speaking, vision changes, or confusion.
Be alert for serious side effects, including blue fingers or toes, cold sensations in hands or feet, hearing changes, mood alterations, and seizures. Rarely, this medication may increase serotonin levels, potentially leading to serotonin syndrome, especially if combined with other drugs affecting serotonin. Symptoms include a rapid heartbeat, hallucinations, loss of coordination, severe dizziness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, muscle twitching, fever, and agitation. Immediate medical help is necessary if these occur.
Although rare, serious allergic reactions may happen. Seek urgent medical help if you experience symptoms like rash, itching, swelling particularly of the face, tongue, or throat, dizziness, or difficulty breathing. This list is not exhaustive, so if you experience any other unexpected effects, reach out to your healthcare provider for advice.
Imitrex Statdose System Interactions
Using MAO inhibitors with this medication can lead to a serious, potentially life-threatening reaction. You should not take MAO inhibitors, such as isocarboxazid, linezolid, metaxalone, methylene blue, moclobemide, phenelzine, procarbazine, rasagiline, safinamide, selegiline, or tranylcypromine, while using this medication. Additionally, most MAO inhibitors must be avoided for at least two weeks before starting this treatment. Consult your doctor for guidance on when to begin or discontinue this medication.
An increased risk of serotonin syndrome or toxicity exists if you take other medications that elevate serotonin levels. These include certain street drugs like MDMA/ecstasy, herbal supplements such as St. John's wort, and specific antidepressants, including SSRIs (e.g., fluoxetine, paroxetine) and SNRIs (e.g., duloxetine, venlafaxine). The risk is higher when initiating or increasing the dosage of these drugs.
If you are also using ergotamine (e.g., dihydroergotamine) or "triptan" medications (e.g., zolmitriptan, rizatriptan), it is important to separate the doses of these drugs from your sumatriptan dose to minimize the risk of significant side effects. Consult with your doctor about how much time should pass between doses of these medications.
